Pros: Big improvement over other Office versions. It's pretty, it's fast and once you get used to it you'll be flying through it like you did with older ones. The new file formats are much better than the old ones - they're a lot smaller in file size and they're quicker to open.
The new rendering engine shows: graphs are cleaner, text is smoother and overall does a better job. Cons: Interface is very different than it used to be and it takes some getting used to. Also the new file formats are used by default and it's a bit annoying when you send files to people that are using older versions of Office.

It seems that you may customize just ONE toolbar with your favorite commands and you can't dock it wherever you want it. I will admit that the toolbar that automatically pops up next to whatever text you highlight is a good idea.
Cons: Word tries to guess what tools you want to use for a particular file type, layout view, etc. That's slower and irritating. With today's larger monitor screens, why work so hard to limit the space devoted to tools? I did not appreciate the fact that under Vista Aero, Word refuses to adopt your window color choices and limits you to three colors of Microsoft's choice.
You have to turn off Aero and choose an 'accessibility' color scheme which you may then modify as you could in previous OSs. No improvement here. I also didn't like the way Word nag, nag, nagged me whenever I chose to save in. I'll migrate everything eventually, I'm thinking, leave me alone! Overall Review: Hobby time! Worst of all about Word Home and Student from my point of view is: don't even think about typing anything into this word processor that may one day make you a dollar.
